A new report, "Research in your Backyard: Developing Cures, Creating Jobs" will be released during the program. Panelists include Dr. Doug Bartels, Senior Research Scientist for Vertex Pharmaceuticals; Jeff Trewhitt, a spokesman for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) who authored the report; and Lorna Johns a patient volunteer who has participated in clinical research.

Innovate Iowa academic survey results revealed

The results of an Innovate Iowa survey of nearly 700 Iowa college students were announced at a May 27th press conference hosted by Kemin Industries in Des Moines. Innovate Iowa conducted the survey of 699 Iowa college and university students during the months of April and May 2010. The survey focused primarily on students studying in the disciplines that would most likely prepare them for careers in life science fields.

David Norton brings Innovation message to Iowa

David Norton, Company Group Chairman at Johnson & Johnson, headlined an "Innovate Iowa" breakfast event in Des Moines on February 9. The event provided an opportunity for Mr. Norton and Iowa business, academic and economic development leaders to discuss strategies for growing the biopharmaceutical and life sciences sector. Media on the day included WHO-AM Newsradio, the Des Moines Register, and AP. The breakfast gathering drew approximately 100 attendees.

Gephardt leads Innovate Iowa forum in Des Moines

Iowa's leading business, reasearch and academic minds joined Former House Majority Speaker Dick Gephardt and Iowa Governor Chet Culver for the Innovate Iowa forum on medical innovation at the University of Iowa's John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center in Des Moines on November 20. The forum was a "Best and Brightest in Medical Innovation" event hosted by the Council for American Medical Innovation and the Iowa Biotechnology Association. The forum conference and surrounding press activity centered on the need for continued growth and cultivation of biomedical innovation in Iowa.
