Innovate Iowa academic survey results revealed
Results indicate students eager to
pursue life science careers in-state, if available
The results
of an Innovate Iowa survey of nearly 700 Iowa college students
were announced at a May 27th press conference hosted by Kemin
Industries in Des Moines. Innovate Iowa conducted the survey of
699 Iowa college and university students during the months of
April and May 2010. The survey focused primarily on students
studying in the disciplines that would most likely prepare them
for careers in life science fields.
Nearly half (46%) of respondents indicated that they hoped to
find a job in Iowa following graduation.
Survey information was gathered from the student bodies at Iowa
State University, the University of Northern Iowa, Des Moines
Area Community College and Buena Vista University.
The release of the survey was accompanied by remarks from the
following speakers:
- Doug Getter, Executive Director of the Iowa Biotechnology Association
- Alissa Jourdon of Kemin Industries
- Rob Denson, President of Des Moines Area Community College
- Kerry Koonce of Iowa Workforce Development
- Amanda Lower and Rhianna Harm, incoming seniors at the University of
Northern Iowa
